Your friends make known, O Lord, the glory of your reign

There is something quietly beautiful in this response: Your friends make known, O Lord, the glory of your reign.” It tells us that the glory of God is not only proclaimed by angels in heaven or by the vastness of creation, it is also made known through the lives of those who love Him.

To be called a friend of the Lord is already something profound. Friendship speaks of closeness, trust, and love. It is not the language of distance. God does not only rule over us with power; He draws us near with love. And those who truly belong to Him begin, little by little, to reflect something of His kingdom.

That is why this psalm is so rich. It reminds us that God’s reign is not spread only by words, but by witness. His “friends” make His glory known not simply by speaking about Him, but by living in a way that reveals Him.

  • A patient soul in a harsh world makes His reign visible.
  • A forgiving heart in the middle of hurt makes His reign visible.
  • A life of truth, humility, prayer, and charity makes His reign visible.

The kingdom of God is often revealed in quiet ways before it is ever announced loudly.

And perhaps that is what touches the heart so deeply here: God chooses to let His glory be seen through those who remain close to Him. Not because they are perfect, but because grace has begun to shape them. Their lives begin to carry a different light, a different peace, a different strength. Others may not always be able to explain it, but they can sense that something of God is there.

This is also a gentle challenge. If we call ourselves friends of the Lord, what does our life make known? Does it reveal His kindness, His truth, His mercy, His peace? Or does it speak more of ourselves than of Him?

Because the real glory of God’s reign is not shown through power as the world understands it. It is shown in holiness. In lives transformed. In hearts that have learned to belong to Him.

So this response is both a privilege and a calling.

It tells us that the Lord wants His kingdom to be seen in the world.
And it reminds us that one of the ways He chooses to show it… is through His faithful friends.
