I have called you friends, says the Lord, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you

Alleluia.

Alleluia.
I have called you friends, says the Lord, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
Alleluia.

There’s a quiet kind of wonder in these words, God doesn’t keep us at a distance. He doesn’t speak to us as strangers or subjects, but as friends. Not the kind of friendship that is shallow or convenient, but one that is rooted in trust, honesty, and closeness.

“I have called you friends…” means we are invited into something deeply personal. A servant obeys without always understanding, but a friend is let in, told what is on the heart. Christ is saying that nothing is hidden from us anymore. He opens to us the very life of God, not because we earned it, but because He chose us.

And that changes everything. It means our faith is not just about rules or duty, it’s about relationship. It’s about walking with Him, listening, speaking, and growing in a love that is mutual. A friend doesn’t turn away when things get hard. A friend stays, even in silence, even in doubt, even in struggle.

So when we hear these words, we’re not just being comforted, we’re being invited. Invited to draw closer, to trust more deeply, to respond not out of obligation, but out of love.

Alleluia.
