For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.

For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God. Response is taken from psalm 63 verse 2b.

There is something deeply intimate in this response: “For you my soul is thirsting, O Lord, my God.” It is the prayer of a heart that has discovered that nothing on earth can fully satisfy its deepest longing except God.

We all know what it means to thirst, to feel the ache of wanting, needing, searching. This psalm takes that human experience and lifts it toward the Lord. It reminds us that beneath many of our restless desires is a deeper hunger: the soul’s desire for God Himself.

That is what makes these words so beautiful. They are honest. They do not pretend the heart is full when it is empty. They turn that emptiness into prayer.

And in doing so, the psalm teaches us something precious: the soul is never more alive than when it knows whom it is truly thirsting for.
