Response: “O Lord, how I love your law.”
(Psalm 119:57, 72, 76–77, 127–128, 129–130 – Response. – 97a)
To love God’s law is to love the heart of God Himself.
The psalmist does not speak of God’s commandments as burdens to be carried but as treasures to be cherished. In a world where truth is often shaped by opinions and changing circumstances, God’s word remains constant. It gives direction when we are uncertain, comfort when we are discouraged, and wisdom when we face difficult choices.
When we truly love the Lord’s law, obedience is no longer driven by fear but by trust. We begin to see that every command God gives is an expression of His love, guiding us away from what harms us and leading us toward the fullness of life He desires for His children.
The psalm also reminds us that God’s word brings light. Even the simplest believer who approaches Scripture with humility can receive wisdom that surpasses worldly knowledge. The Lord delights in opening the hearts of those who seek Him sincerely, revealing His truth not only to the learned but to everyone who listens with faith.
Today we are invited to examine our own hearts. Do we turn to God’s word only when we need answers, or have we made it the daily foundation of our lives? The more we pray with Scripture, the more it shapes our thoughts, our decisions, and our relationships. Gradually, our hearts begin to resemble the heart of Christ.
May today’s response become more than words upon our lips. May it become the sincere prayer of our lives:
“O Lord, how I love your law.”
For in loving His word, we learn to love His will, and in loving His will, we discover the lasting peace that only He can give.
