You forgot the God who gave you birth

Response: “You forgot the God who gave you birth.”
(Deuteronomy 32:18–19, 20, 21 — Response: 18b)

One of the greatest dangers in the spiritual life is not openly rejecting God, but slowly forgetting Him.

Moses reminds the people of Israel that the God who formed them, protected them, and remained faithful to them was the very One they neglected when life became comfortable. It is a warning that speaks just as powerfully to our own hearts today.

We can become so occupied with work, responsibilities, ambitions, and daily routines that we begin to rely more on ourselves than on the Lord. Without realizing it, prayer becomes less frequent, gratitude grows weaker, and God is no longer at the center of our decisions. This quiet forgetfulness slowly distances us from the One who never stops loving us.

Yet the Lord’s words are not spoken to condemn but to awaken. He calls us back because He desires a living relationship with His children. Every moment we turn to Him in trust, thanksgiving, and repentance, we rediscover the joy of belonging to the God who has never forgotten us.

Today, let the psalm be a gentle invitation to remember. Remember His faithfulness in your past, His presence in your present, and His promises for your future. The God who gave you life still walks beside you, waiting to renew your heart with His mercy and His love.
