The Harvest Reveals What the Seed Has Become
In today’s Gospel, Jesus takes His disciples aside and explains one of His most sobering parables. The image of the weeds growing among the wheat is not meant to fill us with fear, but to awaken us to the seriousness of the choices we make each day.
The Lord tells us that the field is the world. Within it, good seed and weeds grow side by side until the time of harvest. At first glance, this can seem unsettling. Why does God allow evil to remain? Why does injustice often appear to flourish? Why are the faithful sometimes asked to persevere while those who reject God seem to prosper?
Jesus does not answer these questions by explaining every mystery of suffering. Instead, He points us to God’s patience.
Our Heavenly Father is never indifferent to evil, but neither is He impatient with sinners. He desires not the destruction of anyone but the conversion of every heart. His mercy gives time for repentance, time for healing, and time for grace to bear fruit. What may appear to us as delay is often the generous patience of God, who continues calling His children back to Himself.
Yet Christ also reminds us that history is moving toward a definite fulfilment. There will come a day when truth will no longer be hidden, when justice will be complete, and when every heart will stand before the One who knows it perfectly. The harvest belongs to God alone.
This Gospel invites us to look inward before we look outward. It is easy to identify the weeds in society, in the world, or even in the lives of others. The harder question is whether there are weeds taking root within our own hearts. Pride, resentment, dishonesty, envy, indifference to the poor, neglect of prayer, or unforgiveness may begin as small compromises, but if left unchecked they slowly choke the life that God desires to grow within us.
The Lord does not speak these words to discourage us. He speaks them because He wants us to become the good seed that bears lasting fruit. Every confession made with sincerity, every act of charity, every hidden sacrifice, every moment spent in prayer allows His grace to transform us little by little into faithful disciples.
Jesus concludes with a promise that fills us with hope: “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.” Holiness is not merely avoiding evil; it is allowing the light of Christ to shine so fully within us that His love becomes visible through our words, our choices, and the way we treat others.
The world needs that light today. Families need it. Workplaces need it. Our communities need it. Every Christian is called to reflect the brightness of Christ in places where darkness often seems to prevail.
The final words of Jesus are simple yet deeply personal: “He who has ears, let him hear.” This is more than an invitation to listen. It is a call to respond. God’s Word asks each of us to decide what kind of seed we will become and what harvest our lives will one day offer.
May we never lose confidence in God’s mercy, but neither may we take His patience for granted. Today is always the right day to begin again.

Heavenly Father,
You have planted the seed of Your Kingdom within our hearts through Your Word and Your grace.
Remove whatever keeps us from growing in holiness, and give us the courage to turn away from every sin that separates us from You.
Strengthen us to remain faithful in times of trial, patient in times of waiting, and generous in every opportunity to love and serve others.
May Your Holy Spirit purify our hearts, deepen our faith, and help us bear the fruits of righteousness each day.
When the harvest of our earthly life is complete, may we be found among those who shine with the light of Christ in Your everlasting Kingdom.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
