Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage

“Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.
Taken from Psalm 33: 12 – 13, 18 – 19, 20 – 21 (Response.) 12b

To belong to God is one of the greatest blessings we can receive. Today’s Psalm reminds us that our security does not ultimately come from wealth, influence, strength or the certainty that life will always go according to plan. Our deepest security comes from knowing whose we are.

The Lord looks with love upon those who place their hope in Him. He sees the struggles hidden from everyone else, the prayers whispered in difficult moments and the burdens carried quietly. When the Psalm tells us that His eyes are upon those who fear Him and hope in His merciful love, it assures us that God never loses sight of His people.

Being chosen as the Lord’s heritage does not mean that we will never suffer. It means that suffering will never separate us from His care. We may pass through uncertainty, loss and seasons when answers seem slow in coming, but we do not pass through them alone.

That is why the Psalm can confidently say, “Our soul is waiting for the Lord. He is our help and our shield.” Christian hope is not the belief that nothing difficult will happen; it is the conviction that whatever happens, God remains faithful.

Today, may we remember that before all the titles, possessions and achievements by which the world measures us, we belong to God. And there is profound peace in being able to say: We are His, and He has not forgotten us.
