“He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life.”
Psalm 1 draws a clear contrast between two ways of living. One life is rooted in God, nourished by His word, and steadily guided by what is true. The other is shaped by passing influences and ultimately has no firm foundation.
The person who delights in the law of the Lord is compared to a tree planted beside flowing waters. That image speaks of stability, nourishment, and fruitfulness. A faithful life is not promised freedom from hardship, but it is given roots deep enough to endure it.
The response, “He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life,” reminds us that following God is not about walking without difficulty. It is about not walking in darkness. His word gives direction when choices are confusing, strength when we are tired, and clarity when the world around us is noisy.
To follow the Lord is to keep choosing His way, even when it is not the easiest path.
May we remain rooted in Him, so that our lives bear good fruit and reflect the light that only He can give.
