“These are the people who seek your face, O Lord.”
Responsorial Psalm Reflection – Psalm 24:1–2, 3–4ab, 5–6
There is a difference between seeking God’s blessings and seeking God Himself. Sometimes we turn to the Lord only when we need something, when life becomes difficult, or when our prayers seem unanswered. Yet today’s Psalm invites us into something much deeper: a relationship with God that is not built only on what He can give us, but on our desire to know Him, love Him, and walk faithfully in His ways.
The Psalm asks, “Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?” The answer reminds us that drawing closer to God requires clean hands and a pure heart. It is not enough to profess our faith with our lips while our actions tell a different story. Our honesty, the way we treat others, the forgiveness we offer, and the choices we make when nobody is watching all reveal how sincerely we seek Him.
And perhaps this is where we need to examine our hearts. Are we truly seeking God’s face, or are we simply seeking His help? Do we make room for Him in our everyday lives, or remember Him only when we have nowhere else to turn?
God does not expect us to come before Him pretending to be perfect. He asks us to come with sincere hearts, willing to repent, willing to change, and willing to let His grace lead us.
May our greatest desire today be not merely to receive something from God, but to draw closer to Him. For the heart that sincerely seeks the Lord will discover that His presence is the greatest blessing of all.
