I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord, but that he turn from his way and live

Alleluia.
I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord, but that he turn from his way and live.
Alleluia.

These words remind us of something beautiful about God’s mercy. He does not rejoice when a sinner falls, nor does He delight in anyone being lost. His greatest desire is to see us turn away from sin and return to Him.

Sometimes we look at our past mistakes and wonder whether God could still forgive us. But today’s acclamation reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of His mercy. God does not ask us to remain prisoners of yesterday’s failures. He invites us to repent, change our ways, and begin again.

And perhaps there is another lesson here. If God desires the conversion rather than the destruction of a sinner, who are we to give up on someone because of their past?

God’s mercy is not permission to continue living in sin. It is an invitation to leave sin behind and discover the life He has always wanted for us.

As long as we have breath, the door to repentance remains open. The question is whether we are willing to walk through it.
