“Great are the works of the Lord.”
How often do we ask God to do something great in our lives, yet fail to recognise the wonderful things He has already done for us? We wake up to another day, share moments with those we love, find strength to carry on through difficulties, and receive blessings that we sometimes overlook because they have become so familiar.
Today’s Responsorial Psalm invites us to remember the goodness of God with grateful hearts. The psalmist praises the Lord not only for the greatness of His works, but also for His compassion, faithfulness, and everlasting covenant with His people. God does not forget those who trust in Him, even when life’s circumstances make His presence difficult to recognise.
There is something particularly beautiful about the words, “He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered.” They remind us that remembering God’s goodness is itself an act of faith. When we look back upon the challenges we once thought we could never overcome, we may begin to recognise the quiet ways in which His grace sustained us.
Sometimes the greatest work of God is not the miracle we have been praying for, but the transformation taking place within our hearts. It is the courage to forgive someone who has hurt us, the strength to remain faithful during suffering, or the peace that allows us to trust Him even when we do not understand His plans.
And perhaps today’s Psalm asks us a simple but important question: Have I become so occupied with what I am still waiting to receive that I have forgotten to thank God for what He has already given me?
May we learn to recognise His goodness in the ordinary moments of life and never take His blessings for granted. Above all, may we remember that the greatest revelation of God’s love is found in Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our salvation.
“Great are the works of the Lord.” May these words rise from our hearts not only when life is going well, but also when we must trust that the God who has been faithful in the past will remain faithful in the days ahead.
