Responsorial Psalm is taken from Psalm 86 (87) “Of you are told glorious things, O city of God“
There is something deeply beautiful in this response: “Of you are told glorious things, O city of God!” It is a song of love for the place where God dwells with His people.
The “city of God” is not praised because of wealth, beauty, or power in the worldly sense. It is glorious because God is there. His presence is what gives it splendor. Without Him, even the grandest city is empty; with Him, even what seems small becomes holy.
For us, this psalm lifts the heart beyond earthly pride and reminds us where true glory is found. It is found wherever God is welcomed, worshipped, and loved. And in that sense, the Church herself becomes for us the city of God, not glorious because her people are perfect, but because the Lord has chosen to dwell among them with grace and mercy.
These words invite us to love what God makes holy, and to remember that the greatest beauty in life is not what shines before men, but what is filled with the presence of God.
