Do not forget the poor, O Lord!

Response: “Do not forget the poor, O Lord!”
(Taken from Psalm 10:1–2, 3–4a, 7–8b, 14 – Response: 12b)

This psalm is the heartfelt cry of those who feel overlooked, oppressed, or powerless. It reminds us that while injustice may seem to prevail for a time, God never loses sight of those who place their trust in Him. He sees every hidden struggle, hears every silent prayer, and remains close to those whose hope rests in His mercy.

The response, “Do not forget the poor, O Lord!”, is not a sign of despair but an expression of deep faith. It acknowledges that the Lord is the defender of the weak, the refuge of the forgotten, and the strength of those who have no one else to rely on. His justice may not always come when we expect it, but it never fails.

This psalm also challenges us to become the hands and heart of Christ. God hears the cry of the poor, and He often answers through the compassion, generosity, and courage of His people. Whenever we defend the vulnerable, show kindness to the lonely, or lift up someone in need, we become living witnesses of the mercy that this psalm proclaims.

Today, let us pray not only that God will remember those who suffer, but that He will make us attentive to them as well. A heart that truly belongs to Christ cannot remain indifferent to the needs of others, for the love we receive from God is meant to be shared with the world.
