Gospel Reflection on Matthew 6: 24 – 34

“Do not be anxious about tomorrow.” (Matthew 6: 24-34)

In today’s Gospel, the Lord Jesus speaks to our hearts with words that bring freedom and peace:

“Do not be anxious… Look at the birds of the air… Consider the lilies of the field…” These are not simply beautiful images; they are a a revelation of our Father’s love.

Jesus knows our human heart. He knows how easily we become weighed down by worries, about what we will eat, what we will wear, how we will provide, or what tomorrow may bring.

Yet He reminds us that life is more than food and the body more than clothing. He calls us to a trust that is not naïve, but deeply rooted in the goodness of God who cares for us with a love that surpasses all earthly care.

To serve two masters is impossible. Our hearts were made for God alone. When we allow “mammon” wealth, success, or security to become our master, we lose our freedom.

But when we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, we discover what truly sustains us: His presence, His peace, and His faithful provision.

This does not mean we should be irresponsible. Rather, Jesus invites us to live each day with faith, doing the good we can, while leaving the future in the hands of our Father. He calls us to be people who work, who provide for our families, who contribute to society-yet without anxiety that steals our joy and blinds us to His gifts.

Look at the lilies, He says. They do not toil or spin, yet even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. If God so lovingly cares for the smallest and most fragile, how much more will He care for you and for me? This is the heart of the Gospel: we are precious in His sight.

Let us simplify our lives. Let us learn to give thanks for today. Let us trust that our Heavenly Father knows what we need-even before we ask Him. And let us seek His Kingdom with our whole hearts.

In a world filled with uncertainty, we are called to be witnesses of hope— not because we have all the answers, but because we have placed our lives in the hands of the One who holds tomorrow.

Let us Pray

Heavenly Father, You care for us with a love beyond measure.

Help us to trust in You more deeply, to seek Your Kingdom above all things, and to live each day with grateful hearts.

Free us from anxiety and fill us with Your peace.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
