Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting.

“Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting.”

Psalm 139 brings us before a God who knows us completely. He knows when we sit and when we rise, our thoughts before we speak them, the paths we take, and even the parts of our lives that remain hidden from everyone else. Nothing about us is unknown to Him.

That truth can be humbling, but it is also deeply comforting. We do not have to pretend before God. He sees our strengths, our failures, our fears, our hopes, and the struggles we may never put into words. Yet He does not turn away. The same God who knows us so thoroughly is the God who formed us with care and purpose.

The psalmist remembers that every part of his life has been held in God’s hands from the very beginning. We are not accidents, nor are our lives meaningless. Each person bears the mark of the Creator, and that gives every human life a dignity that cannot be measured by success, wealth, appearance, or the opinion of others.

Our response, “Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting,” becomes a prayer of surrender. It is an admission that knowing the right road is not always easy. We can become distracted by ambition, fear, resentment, pride, or the pressures of daily life. We may think we know what is best, only to discover that our own plans have taken us far from peace.

So today we ask God not only to know us, but to guide us. We ask Him to search our hearts, correct what needs correcting, strengthen what is good, and gently lead us back whenever we wander.

The everlasting way is not always the easiest road, but it is the road that leads us closer to God. And when we allow Him to guide us, even our uncertainties can become places of grace.

Lead me, Lord, in the way everlasting.
