Open our hearts, O Lord, that we may listen to the words of your Son

Alleluia.
Open our hearts, O Lord, that we may listen to the words of your Son.
Alleluia.

“Open Our Hearts, O Lord”

This Gospel Acclamation reminds us that hearing the words of Jesus is not simply a matter of listening with our ears. The heart must also be open. We can hear the Gospel many times and still miss what Christ is asking of us if our hearts are closed by pride, resentment, distraction or attachment to our own ways.

When we pray, “Open our hearts, O Lord,” we are asking God for the grace to become teachable again, to listen to His Son even when His words challenge us, correct us or call us to change.

Christ does not speak merely to give us information. His Word is meant to enter our hearts and transform our lives. The truly open heart is therefore not simply the one that hears Jesus, but the one that is willing to respond: Lord, speak. I am listening, and with Your grace, I am ready to follow.
