Response: “The Lord will keep us, as a shepherd keeps his flock.”
(Jeremiah 31:10, 11–12ab, 13)
There is something deeply reassuring about the image of the shepherd. A good shepherd does not simply lead the flock; he knows each sheep, watches over them, searches for those who wander, and never abandons them when danger comes. This is how the Lord loves His people.
When we pray, “The Lord will keep us, as a shepherd keeps his flock,” we are reminded that our lives are never left to chance. Even when the road ahead seems uncertain, God walks with us. He sees our struggles, knows our fears, and gently leads us toward the peace we cannot find on our own.
Jeremiah speaks to a people who had known loss, exile, and disappointment, yet God’s promise remained unchanged: He would gather them again and restore their joy. That same promise still speaks to us today. No matter how far we may have drifted, the Good Shepherd never stops calling us back. His mercy is always greater than our failures, and His love is stronger than our fears.
May today’s response remain in our hearts long after the Mass has ended. When life feels uncertain, let us remember that we do not walk alone. The Shepherd who knows us by name will never cease to guide, protect, and lead us safely into the fullness of His love.
