Response: “With you, O Lord, is the fountain of life.”
(Psalm 36)
Every person spends life searching for something that will truly satisfy the heart. We look for security, happiness, success, and peace, yet none of these can fully sustain us unless they are rooted in God. The psalm gently reminds us that the source of all life, hope, and lasting joy is found in Him alone.
When we pray, “With you, O Lord, is the fountain of life,” we are acknowledging that everything good flows from God’s loving hands. His mercy renews us when we are weary. His wisdom guides us when we are uncertain. His grace strengthens us when we feel weak. Just as a spring continually gives fresh water, the Lord never ceases to pour out His love upon those who seek Him with sincere hearts.
This psalm is also an invitation to remain close to God. A branch cut off from the tree cannot bear fruit, and a soul separated from the Lord soon grows restless. But those who dwell in His presence discover a peace that the world cannot offer and cannot take away.
Today, let these words become more than a response at Mass. Let them become the prayer of your heart: “With you, O Lord, is the fountain of life.” For when we remain close to Christ, we discover not only the source of life, but the fullness of it.
