You have given your Son power over the works of your hands

“You have given your Son power over the works of your hands.”

Psalm 8 begins with wonder. The psalmist looks at the heavens, the moon, the stars, and the vastness of creation, then asks what human beings are that God should care for them so deeply.

Yet today’s response takes that wonder even further. It points us toward Christ, the Son, through whom all creation finds its meaning and fulfillment. The One who humbled Himself to share our humanity is also the One to whom all things ultimately belong.

This gives us both comfort and perspective. The world may often seem chaotic, uncertain, and beyond our control, but it is never beyond Christ’s authority. His power is not the power of domination, but the power revealed in love, sacrifice, mercy, and victory over death.

The psalm also reminds us that creation is not ours to exploit carelessly. Everything has been entrusted to humanity under God, and our stewardship should reflect reverence for the One who made it.

Today, may we place our trust in Christ, knowing that all things rest beneath His loving authority.

“You have given your Son power over the works of your hands.”
