You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church

Today’s Gospel Acclamation reminds us that the Church is not built upon human strength, popularity, or passing generations, but upon the unwavering promise of Christ. When Jesus entrusted Peter with this mission, He established a foundation that would endure every trial because He Himself remains its true cornerstone.

The words, “The gates of Hades shall not prevail against it,” are a message of hope for every age. Throughout history, the Church has faced persecution, hardship, and moments of great challenge, yet Christ has never abandoned His people. His presence continues to guide, strengthen, and renew His Church through the Holy Spirit.

This promise also speaks to each of us personally. There are times when fear, doubt, temptation, or suffering seem overwhelming, but the Lord reminds us that darkness never has the final word. When our lives are built on Christ, we discover a strength that does not come from ourselves but from the One who remains faithful in every season.

Today we are invited not only to admire the faith of Saint Peter, but to make his confession our own: to believe with confidence that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and to stand firmly with His Church in faith, hope, and love. In doing so, we become living witnesses that Christ’s promises remain as certain today as they were when He first spoke them.

Alleluia.
You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Alleluia.
