Happy Mother’s Day

On this Mother’s Day, we give thanks to God for the great gift of mothers.

With love and gratitude, we honor all mothers among us, those who are raising children, those who have raised them with sacrifice and prayer, those who carry hidden burdens for their families, those who grieve, those who wait, those who have loved with a mother’s heart, and those whose quiet faithfulness is known fully only to God.

The Church looks to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, as the most beautiful earthly image of maternal love given wholly to the will of God. In her, we see tenderness joined with strength, humility joined with courage, silence joined with deep faith. She received God’s word with trust, carried Christ within her, followed Him with unwavering love, and remained faithful even at the foot of the Cross. In Mary, every mother can see that motherhood is not only a task, but a vocation marked by sacrifice, mercy, patience, and enduring love.

How much the world owes to mothers. Much of what is good, human, and holy in society is first learned in the heart of a mother: the first prayers whispered over a child, the first lessons in kindness, the first signs of tenderness, the first sacrifices made without recognition, the first love that teaches a child what safety feels like. A mother’s hands so often carry what others do not see. A mother’s heart so often bears what others do not understand.

Today, we want to say clearly to every mother: your love matters. Your prayers matter. Your sacrifices matter. Your hidden tears, your long days, your worries, your tenderness, your perseverance, none of it is wasted in the eyes of God.

  • To mothers who feel joyful today, we rejoice with you.
  • To mothers who are tired, we thank you.
  • To mothers who are carrying pain, we hold you in prayer.
  • To mothers who have lost children, or children who miss their mothers, we ask the Lord to draw especially near.
  • To spiritual mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and all women who have reflected God’s care through love and fidelity, we offer heartfelt gratitude.

Motherhood, lived in faith, reflects something sacred. It reflects God’s patient care, His tenderness, His protective love, and His readiness to give without counting the cost. In a world often hardened by selfishness and haste, the witness of a loving mother remains one of God’s quiet miracles.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary wrap all mothers in her mantle today. May she intercede for them, strengthen them, comfort them, and lead them always closer to her Son. And may every mother know that the Church sees her, values her, and thanks God for her.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our dear mothers. May the Lord bless you abundantly for all the love you have given and continue to give.

Prayer for our Mothers

Heavenly Father,
we thank You today for the gift of mothers.
We thank You for their love, their sacrifice, their patience, and their faithful care.

Bless all mothers with strength and peace.
Comfort those who are weary.
Console those who are grieving.
Encourage those who feel unseen.
And fill every mother’s heart with the joy that comes from knowing
that her love is precious in Your sight.

Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of God,
protect all mothers and keep them close to Your heart.
May they be renewed in hope, strengthened in faith,
and surrounded by Your grace.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
