“The Lord has fixed his throne in heaven.”
This Psalm lifts our eyes beyond the worries and uncertainties of the present moment and reminds us of something that never changes: God is still Lord. His throne is firmly established in heaven, and nothing that happens in this world lies beyond His sight or His authority.
Yet the God who reigns over all creation is also a God of extraordinary mercy. The Psalm tells us that as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. He does not hold our failures over us forever. In His forgiveness, He removes our sins from us “as far as the east is from the west.”
That is a beautiful reason for hope. We may not always understand what God is allowing in our lives, but we can trust the One who sits upon the throne. His power is greater than our troubles, His mercy greater than our sins, and His love remains steadfast.
The Lord has fixed his throne in heaven. May that truth give us peace when everything around us seems uncertain.
