The Lord is my light and my salvation

“The Lord is my light and my salvation.”

There are moments in life when the road ahead seems uncertain, when our hearts are troubled by worries, and when the burdens we carry make it difficult to see beyond our present struggles. Yet today’s Responsorial Psalm reminds us of a beautiful truth: when God is our light, darkness may surround us, but it cannot take away the hope we have in Him.

King David does not declare that his life is free from danger or suffering. Rather, he proclaims his confidence in the Lord, knowing that even in the midst of life’s difficulties, God remains his refuge and salvation.

What is particularly moving is David’s deepest desire. Above everything else, he longs to dwell in the house of the Lord and remain in His presence. He understands that the greatest blessing is not a life without problems, but a heart that knows where to find God when problems arise.

How often do we seek peace in possessions, achievements, or the approval of others, only to discover that these things cannot satisfy the deepest longings of our souls?

Today’s Psalm invites us to turn our hearts towards the Lord, especially through prayer, the Holy Eucharist, and the quiet moments when we place our worries before Him.

The Psalm concludes with a call to courage: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage.”

Waiting upon God is not always easy. Sometimes our prayers seem unanswered, and the changes we long for do not come as quickly as we had hoped. But faith teaches us that God’s silence does not mean His absence, and His timing is not a measure of how deeply He loves us.

May we learn to trust the Lord even when we cannot see the way forward, remembering that the same God who has sustained us through yesterday’s trials will not abandon us in tomorrow’s uncertainties.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation.” May these words become more than a response we proclaim at Mass. May they become the confidence with which we face each new day, knowing that wherever life may lead us, the Lord remains our strength, our hope, and our eternal salvation.
