Taken from Psalm 24: 1 – 2, 3 – 4ab, 5 – 6 (Response.) 1ab
These words remind us of something we easily forget: nothing we possess is truly ours forever. The earth, our abilities, our opportunities, the people we love and even the life within us are gifts entrusted to us by God.
Psalm 24 therefore calls us not only to recognise God as Creator, but also to examine how we live before Him. The person who approaches the Lord is described as one with “clean hands and a pure heart.” Faith cannot remain only on our lips; it must be visible in our choices, our honesty, the way we treat others and the desires we allow to shape our hearts.
When we understand that everything belongs to God, gratitude begins to replace entitlement and stewardship replaces selfishness. We learn to receive His blessings thankfully, use them responsibly and share them generously.
And perhaps the greatest wisdom of this Psalm is simply this: when everything belongs to God, our lives belong to Him too.
